Before the launch there were rumors flying around the web. In 2002 Steve Jobs was interviewed by the New York Times and in that interview he stated that Apple had no plans for a handheld PC. In the same interview he went on to discuss the next generation of cellular phones. This sparked much debate and a thirst for the cell phone Apple could produce. 5 years later they finally released the iPhone and it was not a disappointement to Mac heads everywhere.
Now that we have our specs, prices and lots of videos to look over we want to see where the device is heading. As cool as it may be it's still a 1.0 device and that can mean lots of bugs and lots of let downs. We're encouraging Apple, Inc. to open this phone up to programmers and GSM hopping users. Below is collected rumors and evidence that might support our hopes!
- Feb 23, 2007 - AppleInsider.com reports that the iPhone will hit Europe in early 2008 and that 3G phones could be here as early as January 2008. Click here for their story.
- As listed in our videos page Actioncorp TV (ACTV) shows us that there are extra unmarked buttons on some of the apps during Steve's Keynote speech. One of which is an icon of a car and gives the impression that GoogleMaps on the iPhone might be able to give GPS type navigation directions.
- The same ACTV podcast shows that there is a 'ringtones' tab in the iTunes version on the iPhone in the keynote.
- March 3, 2007 - iPhone without the phone? Macrumors.com is stating that we could see the 6th generation iPods by Christmas 2007 including a 32GB flash memory iPod with looong battery life.
